Android Class Awarded $7,000 Grant!

The Android Programming class at Krueger Middle School won a $7,000 grant from Rackspace Hosting to be used for laptops and development devices this semester. Rackspace has generously offered several grant opportunity to schools within the Roosevelt cluster this year by offering teachers the opportunity to write proposals for programs and/or equipment that could be used to help NEISD students.

This particular grant will help the students enrolled in this class learn to program mobile applications and sell them by publishing to the Android market. The class is taught by Josh Beck and is currently in its second year.

"Although students can learn to program for Android using free software development tools, this physical hardware makes working with key concepts much more accessible," said Beck.

The fact that the students now have access to a small number of dedicated programming laptops also means that students who wish to work on their applications at home will be able to do so by checking out the equipment.

Congratulations NEISD Android Developers and thank you Rackspace Hosting!
